June Fashion Wishlist

Genevieve Cordery June Fashion Mules

Summer is right around the corner and that means it’s time to start embracing lighter clothing, like dresses and sandals.

Because the Summer is so ridiculously hot in Charlotte, I’ve fallen out of love with this season. When I was a kid, Summer was my jam – but it was probably because we were out of school, so it was just three months of sleeping in and bumming around the house all day. As I got older, I became more self-conscious about my body, so I would always wear jeans, no matter the season. Thick skinny jeans and 90-degree weather are not a wise Summer fashion combination.

Nowadays, I’m really trying to embrace more “Summer-y” clothes and I am so glad to see floral making a comeback! I’m a sucker for floral, but I always add an element to make my outfits edgier; like a choker, or light faux leather jacket. I’ve been stocking up on long floral dresses and there are seriously so many wonderful options out there. These dresses are great because you can wear them so many different ways and add different accessories to change up the look.

I’ve also become obsessed with mules – I know, some of you are still not convinced, but they are so simple, and in the Summer, shoes that are light and simple are key. Heeled sandals are also great if you are not completely sure you can make a commitment to mules. I’ve got my eyes on a few heeled sandals and I’m planning on adding those to my ever-expanding shoe collection, soon. Boyfriend jeans have been popular for a few years now and I am just now jumping onto that train. Better late than never, eh? I’ve just been so content with my skinny jeans, I refused to believe that loose fitting jeans could ever look flattering on me. Boy, was I wrong! I plan on adding some more to my wardrobe, too.

I got a chance to rock my friend’s straw bag in a previous shoot, and I fell in love with it. Growing up, I was always surrounded by bamboo/straw bags because my mom is from the Philippines and that is a popular material for purses and mini backpacks. I guess I became so used to seeing them around the house that I never really thought to rock them with my Spring and Summer outfits. Now that I have, I can’t get enough. I want straw bags of all sizes, colors, and strap lengths.

There are a number of new compact eyeshadows launching this Summer, and I want them all! My friend gifted me the Christian Dior palette and I’m so enamored by it. The colors are pigmented and beautiful, and the formula is so smooth. It makes building a smoky-eye incredibly easy.

Lastly: baseball caps. These never go out of style for me. No, I wouldn’t wear them with a dress, but on lazy days when I don’t feel like doing my hair, or maybe if I am just having a terrible hair day, these caps hide my messy locks. Cute baseball caps are a staple for me.
