I’m so excited to finally reveal our baby nursery!
It’s been several months in the making, because I am physically limited and need a lot of help. But also because we needed to get all the baby furniture and let me tell you – covid is still affecting production for a lot of baby related items. Our car seat, crib, and stroller were backordered for several months. I was getting nervous waiting for the items to arrive. Pat and I were worried we would have the baby before we had the furniture. Thankfully that was not the case.
As furniture started to be delivered, we started slowly assembling everything to get to where we are today. I’ve been talking about this day for months, and sharing the journey on my Instagram stories! Huge thank you to everyone for helping us pick out paint colors and cheered us on as we started working on the baby nursery.
BEFORE
Six years ago, this is what the room looked like when I bought my home. (Without that big brown bulky piece of furniture…that belonged to the previous seller.) After years of my sister living in this space, there was quite a bit of things that needed updating and fixing. Fortunately, we were able to get all the cosmetic work done fairly quickly. I shared a lot of those updated on my IG stories, so be sure to look there for details in my highlights.
This is probably one of the larger guestrooms in the house and it’s the closest to the upstairs bath. For that reason it made perfect sense to make this the baby’s room. Whenever I look at the before and after photos, I can’t help but smile and be proud of our hard work. Huge thank you to my dad and Pat for really helping me pull this room together.
AFTER
Pat and I decided to go with a woodland themed nursery for our little baby boy. We are both relatively outdoorsy people. We go camping several times a year and love spending time in nature. As we grow our family we want to instill this lifestyle into our children, and this nursery is a great first step. We purchased a lot of art off Etsy, but one of Pat’s cousins gifted us some cute woodland figurines too.
Nursery Furniture & Tech
We bought the Charlie DaVinci crib and mattress, as well as the IKEA Hemnes dresser. The crib converts into a toddler bed so our son can continue to use both the dresser and bed as he grows. My nursery rocking chair was actually the one my mom used with me and my sister, but you can find similar style, here. For some sweet baby tech, we chose the closed-loop Infant Optics baby monitor system, the Hatch nightlight/sound machine, and an air purifier since we have dogs.
Diapering
Without getting into our favorite creams and wipes (cuz how would we know until after our son is born,) let’s talk about diapering. We opted for this Skip Hop diaper pail because it traps odors, is space-saving, and can use any standard kitchen trash bag. Who wants to have to go through the trouble of ordering specific trash bags? Not me.
We also purchased the Skip Hop Wipe Clean Changing Pad. It’s made of a soft foam making it easy to clean. It also features a belt buckle to prevent the baby from rolling out. To make accessing wipes easy, we purchased this wipes holder that makes it easy to get a wipe out with one hand. This holder is also compatible with the diaper pail if you prefer to keep your wipes on the top caddy.
Library Wall
I purchased these floating bookshelves which were incredibly easy to install. I loved that they were wider than most other shelves at IKEA or Target. It takes up more blank wall space and holds more books! One of my friends suggested adding maternity photos throughout the room, too. I think the b+w photo looks great styled with the books.
I know our son won’t be reading for a while, but we do want to get into the habit of reading to him at night. Some of our family and friends bought us some classic baby books to add to our collection. While we were in Los Angeles, we also popped into a book store and purchased some vintage baby books too. My parents even saved most, if not all, of our childhood baby books. My sister and I decided we will be sharing those books. I marked them with stickers so I can remember to pass them onto her when she has kids.
–
I had the vision for the room in my head for months and I’m so proud of how well it came together. DIYs rarely happen over night and remaining patient is hard, but worth it! I can already picture our lives in this space. I can see Pat and me spending a lot of time in this room, playing, reading, feeding, and changing.
