Home Decor: DIY Vase Makeover

It’s really easy to make thrifted finds your own, especially home decor.

All you need is a little paint and patience and you can have yourself a trendy DIY vase. Whenever I go to thrift stores, I go straight for the glassware and ceramics. Sometimes you’ll find uniquely shaped vases or planters that just need a little cosmetic makeover.

These are the three spray paints I used in this vase makeover: Blossom White, Smokey Beige, and Caribbean Sand.

Cleanse

As always, everything you buy (especially at thrift stores) should be thoroughly washed and dried. There’s a lot of gunk and grime that can build up on it. You never know how long those items could have been in a garage or attic, just waiting for donation day.

Bubbles can appear in the paint if there are droplets of water or any moisture, so make sure each vase is thoroughly dried before starting to paint.

Paint

Take your time here. Applying too much paint, particularly spray paint, can cause runs and drips. I’m guilty of always over-doing it and causing drips in my paint. #sadlife.

Whether it takes two coats, or 10, be patient and thorough. Sometimes you have to change the angle of the object your spraying in order to get in all the nooks and crannies. You can also spray some paint into an old container and use a paint brush to touch up hard to reach areas.

Style

Now you can style these however you’d like, or gift them to family and friends! They’re perfect for dried florals or fresh cuts.

I got lucky and found this open vase as I was thrift shopping. It was originally a gross brown color, but I quickly remedied that with this vase makeover! I have my own silver dollar eucalyptus tree so I took some cuttings and placed them in the vase with some water.
