Life isn’t about settling, playing it safe, or staying within our comfort zones.
Think of fight or flight – Do you run when things get tough, or do you stick it out until the end, no matter the outcome? To survive in most industries, you have to be able to take risks and see them through. The same can be applied to our individual lives. Remember, old ways don’t open new doors.
As humans, we strive for greatness, perfection, and self-improvement. I want to improve and be the best version of me there is, and risk-taking helps me achieve that. The power of taking risks is always beckoning us, and it’s up to no one but ourselves to grab life by the horns. It’s either that or bench yourself. Personally, I don’t like to watch life pass me by while I’m sitting on the sidelines. I want to get out there and explore the unknown – I want to live.
Let’s be realistic, I don’t jump for every risky opportunity out there – We would be having a very different conversation if I had been doing that. When my heart and soul tell me to ‘go for it,’ I try to listen and take that leap. The fact that I stood my ground, and did not run, shows me that I have the confidence to overcome any future obstacles that may come my way. So a key takeaway is that taking risks can lead to self-trust and self-confidence. Every time you squash your self-doubt you gain more self-assurance, which isn’t a bad thing.
Taking risks also adds vibrancy and excitement to your life. By embracing risks, you free yourself up to creative exploration. Wear jeans with a dress, interview for your dream job, learn a new skill, or kiss the person you want to kiss most. For those of you in relationships, where would you be if one of you (or both of you) hadn’t taken the risk to put yourself out there? Falling in love wouldn’t be so much fun if it weren’t for the risk of the unknown and the possibilities.
Now go out there and take some risks ~ Happy Valentine’s Day!
