Upcycled Wall Calendar: DIY Thrift Flip

Upcycled Wall Calendar: DIY Thrift Flip

Twenty Twenty-One is going to be a memorable year.

I can feel it. Pat and I already have a lot of exciting dates to keep. We live in the age of digital calendars, but I love physical reminders of what the day is, or what it may bring. I don’t know about you guys, but I hardly ever check my calendar on my iPhone. Unless I get a notification, I have no idea what is going on that day.

On one of my last trips to the thrift store I was lucky to find a perfect good, unopened, 2021 calendar. Since I don’t already have one, I grabbed it. I also found a wood panel that had some scratched painted lettering on it. I pictured a pretty little clipboard calendar for my home.

Things You’ll Need:

The first thing I did was sand and stain the wood piece. There was some random painted lettering on it but the sanding was able to strip it off easily. I wiped away any remaining sanding dust and re-stained the wood with Minwax Red Mahogany.

I was lucky enough to find a 12-month 2021 calendar at Goodwill for 99 cents! About a week ago, I saw a few in the Target Dollar Spot for $5 which is not a bad price either. I wasn’t a fan of the art around the calendar I purchased, so I opted to cut it away with a paper trimmer.

To assemble, use E6000 to glue the clipboard clip to the wood square. It takes about 24 hours to form a strong bond so if you choose to use this method, be sure to give the glue time to cure. Once the glue is completely cured, place the calendar sheets in the clip.

I am using twine to hang my calendar but if you wanted to add it to a fridge you could use some adhesive magnets affixed to the back of the wood panel or Command Strips. Now I have the cutest clipboard calendar I can use in the coming years!

What do you think of this calendar thrift flip?
