Easy and Elegant DIY Christmas Ornaments

Easy and Elegant DIY Christmas Ornaments

Christmas is in full swing at my house.

I’ve pretty much got everything up except a *real* Christmas tree. Per Cordery family tradition, I’m waiting until after Thanksgiving to get a fresh tree, but I’ve got all my Christmas ornaments ready. S/O to my sister for letting me use her mini tree for the photos!

Over the last few years, Pat and I have been collecting tree ornaments from all of the places we travel. I like the idea of having a tree that reminds us of all the adventures we’ve had together. We usually dress the tree with other plastic ornaments (dogs, amirite?) that I thrifted when I first bought my house but we didn’t feel like putting those up this year. Instead, I bought clear glass ornaments and decorated them with gold leaf and dried florals from my floral wall hanging. We’re going to keep these higher up on the tree in case Cleo’s tail tries to yeet them across the room. I also upcycled some of the old ornaments with wool yarn.

Gold Leaf Flake Christmas Ornaments

When I saw this flatter globe ornament shape, I knew it’d be perfect to fill with gold foil flakes. It’s smaller than the traditional round orbs but can still fit a lot! The pack I purchased came with gold, rose gold, and silver flakes with a handy long-nose tweezer that made it so easy to insert the flakes. You can find the exact ornaments I bought at Michael’s or Hobby Lobby for relatively cheap.

Dried Flower Christmas Ornaments

Since I took down the florals to make my holiday wall hanging, I wanted to put the florals to good use. I grabbed some scissors and cut the flowers from the stems, inserting them into glass globe ornaments. These dried flower globes are also a great dupe for other glass ornaments being sold at Anthropologie. To make your own, get some flowers from your local grocery store and let them dry out for a few days. Add some gold leaf flakes if you want to add some glitz. Once they’re delicate to the touch, they’re ready!

Wool Yarn Christmas Ornaments

I had some left over wool yarn from other projects and wanted to make some cozy ornaments for Christmas. I grabbed my hot glue gun and started wrapping and gluing around an old plastic ornament. I started from the top and worked my way to the bottom.

Bonus: Dried Citrus Slice Ornaments

I talked about this in my Holiday Wall Hanging post, but you can dry out citrus slices in an oven or dehydrator – hang with twine for a farmhouse or boho chic feel!

These DIY Christmas ornaments are quick, easy, and just a tad messy. It’s a great project to do with family or alone, while watching Christmas movies! They add a unique and personal touch to Christmas home decor.

Which one of these is your favorite?
