Make Statement Pieces Pop With This Simple Wardrobe Hack

Everyone likes a good statement piece – especially me!

But if you are not sure how to rock them, or if you’ve been guilty of embracing some fashion faux-pas, these beauties might sit in your closet collecting dust. Since I started this blog, you’ve seen me wear statement piece after statement piece but I’ve never really talked about how to make them the standout centerpiece of your outfit.

A few nights ago, I was talking to my sister’s boyfriend (who is an artist on Spotify – go follow!) about styling some of his favorite statement coats. The first and only advice/fashion hack I provided was ‘always pair with a complementary neutral color’. That’s it – it’s so simple.

Neutrals are classic and elegant on their own but they can also help make patterns and other colors stand out. Since my faux fur coat is bold and eye-catching, I wore a dark khaki color top underneath to keep the cool tones grounded. Midnight Black or Olive would have also paired nicely with this coat.

The moral of the story is…neutrals are your best friend.

Let’s be honest, even if you are not wearing a big, beautiful statement piece, you can always wear neutrals with a complementary color, tactile texture, or pattern and look just as stunning. My wardrobe is loaded with neutrals because of how versatile they are!
