Wedding Card Box: DIY Thrift Flip

Wedding Card Box: DIY Thrift Flip

Having the perfect card box is essential for weddings.

Speaking of which, I still can’t believe my wedding is this year! Pat and I have almost everything planned but we are opting to DIY a lot of stuff between now and then. One of the things we needed to get our hands on was a card box. While I was thrifting a while back, I found this terrarium for $25! I considered this a huge win because 1) it’s going to be a beautiful card box and 2) it will be perfect for my small plants that need higher humidity. #plantmom

Before I could do anything, I needed to wipe down every nook and cranny. I took the glass panels out and wiped everything down with windex. The glass panels were a bit difficult to clean because they were clearly old and had flaws. I cleaned the difficult spots with soap and water, which got some of the gunk off. The glass was still left pretty cloudy looking in the end, but I think it contributes to a vintage feel!

I took the terrarium outside to spray paint it gold. I used a combination of aged vintage gold and metallic gold to create an antique look. I started by painting the stand by itself, then the terrarium while it was open. I carefully layered on the paint to avoid runs and took my time getting into all the corners.

Using my white chalk marker, I wrote ‘cards‘ on one of the glass panels. Full disclosure, I had to rewrite it like 10x until I was happy with it. You can always trace over a font you like instead…that would probably be easier, ha!

You can fill the inside of your card box with whatever you want or leave it empty. For my wedding, I’ll be using fresh eucalyptus and possibly a few flowers. Rose petals or magnolia leaves would also be beautiful.

I’ve seen so many gorgeous card boxes out there. Some use glass, acrylic, and I’ve even seen engraved wooden boxes. My wedding is leaning towards an english garden wedding with rustic elements so this terrarium worked out perfectly.

What do you think of this terrarium turned wedding card box?
