3 Ways Cold Showers Benefit You

Taking cold showers offers many benefits for your physical, mental and emotional health.

I admit, I am a sucker for a hot shower, who isn’t? But let’s face facts, cold showers are better for your skin and your hair. I’ve been taking cold showers to help my skin and my hair recover from all the very hot showers I’ve been taking over the years.  Maybe you should start implementing a cold shower into your daily routine.

It’s Great For Your Hair

Showering in cold water is actually amazing for your hair because unlike hot showers, they help your hair to appear shiny, strong and healthy. No one likes dry, brittle hair. Also, hair cuticles close when it comes into contact with cold water so your hair is less likely to be damaged by dirt and oils.

It Gives Your Skin A Youthful Glow

Cold water will help seal those pores preventing dirt and oil from clogging them up. Don’t get me wrong, hot showers feel a-m-a-z-i-n-g, but truthfully, it strips your skin of natural oils. Cold showers are an obvious and healthier choice.

It Gives You ‘Lift’

I’m talking mentally and emotionally here. When I am feeling, angry, flustered, or uneasy, a cold shower is often the perfect solution to calm and relax me. The cold water on your skin might take a bit to get used to a first, but I promise you, after a while, you will feel like the cold water is your healing source. Also, when I am tired and need to wake up, a cold shower always does the trick.

*Bonus tip*

Don’t take a cold shower at night! As I mentioned before, taking a cold shower in the morning can help you feel refreshed and energized. However, at night, you’re better off with a warm shower. When you step out and start to cool off, it activates your body’s natural bedtime temperature drop, making you sleepy.
