Lace has always been one of my favorite materials.

After scrolling through an abundance of Pinterest inspiration, I stumbled upon lace embroidery hoop wall art. Naturally, I was drawn to it. I’ve been holding on to some old dresses and coats I no longer wear that could be up-cycled into other projects. You might remember this lace pattern from my old tulle dress. Yep – today we are going to turn this old dress into wall art!

Up-cycling old clothes for DIY projects can save you a huge chunk of money on fabric. I will likely purchase some intricate lace to add onto this project later, but for now this up-cycled material works perfect.

Things You’ll Need:

Embroidery Hoop Wall Art Dress

Step One:

I wanted to use the lower half of my dress for this project and keep the top for a potential DIY down the road. I cut the dress through the middle, using my ruler to make sure I was cutting a straight line. You can use scissors or a rotary cutter on a cutting mat. It’s okay if it’s not perfect.

Embroidery Hoop Wall Art Seam Ripper

Step Two:

Using your seam ripper, open up the material so you have one big, flat piece. I wanted to separate the lacing/tulle material from the tan fabric lining so I used the seam ripper to tear the material apart. As you rip the seams, gently pull on the material to make sure you successfully cut through the thread.

Step Three:

Place the material in your embroidery hoop and tighten the screw. To properly place your material, put the inside hoop under the fabric and the larger hoop over the fabric. I made sure to pulled the fabric while I was tightening to ensure the hoop had a good grip of the material – I didn’t want the fabric to sag or have awkward folds.

Embroidery Hoop Wall Art Hot Glue

Step Four:

After trimming the material around the embroidery hoop, you are all set! For extra caution, you can apply a thin layer of hot glue around the seam of the hoops to make sure the fabric doesn’t slip down the road. This does mean that your project is permanently glued together, so if you are looking to reuse the hoops, you may want to skip the glue.

You too can have a lavish display of beautiful lace adorning your walls! Poke around your closets and see if there is any old materials you can use. Hope you guys love this project as much as I do!

Let me know what you thought of this DIY in the comments.
