Halloween is one of my favorite holidays ā and it kicks off the best part of the year!
Every Halloween since I met Pat’s family, I’ve thrown a little spook-tacular shindig for the kids. It started off as a Halloween egg hunt, much like Easter. Then it grew into a costume party; however, this year we are encouraging the adults to dress up as well. There’s no reason the grown-ups can’t have a little fun. But I take pride in my Halloween decor and since we had some gorgeous floral arrangements at our wedding, I felt that letting them wilt and dry would create some creepy, dead centerpieces.
First, I have to stay thank you to my mother, maid of honor – Alice, bridesmaid – Megan, bridesman – Tyler, and his lovely wife and my dear friend – Agnes. They spent about two days helping me with wedding flowers but they are responsible for all of the beautiful arrangements at my wedding. I wish I had photographs to share from when they were fresh, but once my wedding photographer is finished editing, I’ll be sure to share!
How To Make Dead Centerpieces
There’s really not much to it. I’m simply letting them dry out in their vessels. However, it’s important to know the assembly of my arrangements. We used floral wet foam to keep the flowers and greenery hydrated for the wedding. We also stuck chicken wire into the vessels to keep the stems strong and upright. As the foam dries out, the flowers and stems dry out.
Note: This wouldn’t work if you let the arrangements sit in water as they begin to dry out. Excess water creates mold, something you do not want if you are trying to keep your flowers. The stems may turn to mush as the mold begins to take over your florals. If you prefer, you can always hang them upside down for a couple of weeks as they dry. This will allow them to dry with straight stems, keeping them upright when they’re placed back into a vase or vessel.
And there you have it ā the perfect dead centerpieces and florals, perfect for Halloween.
Updating My Floral Wall Hanging
I also decided to change up my floral wall hanging to match the dead centerpieces for Halloween. This time, I adorned the wood with willow eucalyptus. I quite like the look.
